In this episode, I introduce my new world and build a 9x9 scale model to demonstrate the building techniques I will use for this difficult project.  Celebrity Hairdresser Stuart Phillips and top colourist Lara Clark creates a fantastic new haircut and colour on model Lisa. On June 27th 2011, Stuart Philips and Vibe International Models held a casting together at the Stuart Phillips salon in London to find the perfect model for Stuart's new hair video and also to be signed up to Vibe International Model Agency. In order to find the perfect model Stuart first had to look at each models bone structure, face shape and body type etc, this is very important when there's going to be a radical change, height and confidence was also an important factor, as she would be filmed showing off her new hairstyle walking outside in the streets. Stuart looked for a potential model with the possibility of improving her looks and sex appeal even more, this doesn't work for all models because sometimes cutting their long hair short can have an adverse effect. Lisa Chenneour was one of the favourites to receive the job out of the 15 models present, she seemed to fit this criteria perfectly. After watching how Lisa walked as if she was on a catwalk, the decision was made to chose her for the Stuart Phillips hair video and to be signed up to Vibe International Models. Lisa was about to undergo a massive re-style, from long to a short, choppy/funky haircut and a radical colour change, from black to a fiery red/copper. Mark starts with a deceptively simple concept design and then guides you through the process of blocking out and understanding the technical and artistic needs for realizing this character. From there, he rough sculpts in ZBrush and brings back and forth into Maya, comparing and interchanging them. Special attention is paid to creating realistic forms and silhouettes and how to take them from an "ugly" rough to a nice piece ready for the next stages of re-surfacing UVs and so on. |

 Discuss this video at: forum.irakrakow.com Creating a character for Blender's Game Engine is different from creating a character in Blender 3D. In Blender 3D, you have a wider range of options for creating detailed characters, such as adding geometry for details, using curves and surfaces, and sculpt mode. These high-polygon models work well for rendering. However, if such a model is placed in the Game Engine, the animation would slow down to an unacceptable level. Some commonly used techniques, such as subsurf, are not available in the BGE. BGE characters should be low-polygon for best performance. However, they can't be too low-poly, because the characters will look too much like rectangles and squares. In addition, you need enough geometry to do realistic animations in the BGE, such as walk cycles and lattice deformations. So creating a character for the Blender Game Engine is a tradeoff. In this tutorial, which is based on Tony Mullen's discussion in Mastering Blender, a book I recommend if you want a great introduction to Blender in more depth, I show a recipe for creating a character for the BGE. It's more a set of steps than a fully realized character. I leave that to you. I encourage you to use these steps to create your own character and post your result on my Blender 3D Forum at forum.irakrakow.com. I used Blender 2.49b. |
